We are living in a world where most of us would like to have strong healthy bodies and therefore having to avoid foods that add to empty calories to their diet. In order to look good and fit, you need to sacrifice a lot and that includes consuming foods that are healthier but not necessarily tastier. Healthy foods are thought to always lacking flavor but high in nutrients. Hot cereal does allow foods that have a satisfactory level of nutrients and flavor at the same time.
We shall discuss a simple oats or any hot cereal recipe, because oats are not everyone’s cup of tea. It is a recipe that at the end of the day produces an addiction to hot cereal that due to their deliciousness and it’s fairly quick and easy to make.
While preparing oats, cream of wheat, powdered porridge, or farina, have the following:
1 1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of half & half
1/4 cup of evaporated milk
1/8 teaspoon of kosher-salt
1 teaspoon of honey
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/4-1/2 cup of sugar
Choice of toppings if you like range from peaches, strawberries, cubed thick bread chunks, blueberries, chocolate chips, or even extra serving of honey.
The Steps Involved In Making Delicious Oats or Grains Include:
- Bring water to a boil in saucepan.
- Add salt to water.
- Add grains or oats with whisk to hot water and stir to make ensure no lumps.
- Bring to 2nd Boil, lower the heat.
- Combine the milks, cinnamon, nutmeg to saucepan. Whisk out any lumps in hot cereal.
- Simmer uncovered for 3- 5 minutes or until to desired thickness.
- Remove from heat.
- Serve as is or add you desired toppings to hot cereal
Simmering the grains or cereal allows for the ingredients to join together as the grains open up to absorb the water and flavor creating a thickening process.
I like to add thick bread like hard dough bread, or brioche, or some thick white bread to my farina or porridge while also adding condensed milk to either of these hot cereals. I have had to cut back from dishes that are very rich such as farina, oatmeal, and porridge, but I try to have cream of wheat at least once every 2 weeks because I believe it will help my body get necessary nutrients.
